Sketch definition. What are sketches? What are they? What is a drawing

What are sketches? These are preliminary drawings that represent ideas for future structures, works of art, mechanisms or any of their details.

Part sketch

This is a schematic representation of it, very similar to a drawing: it also includes all the information necessary for its production and control.

The sketch contains drawings, length, width, material and other information. It is necessary to create a sketch based on the norms and rules of the standards. It is very important. Children draw sketches at school during a drawing lesson: the teacher places a part in front of them, and they transfer its image to paper. This subject requires a squared notebook.

How to sketch a part?

The sketch is done as follows:

Tattoo sketch

This kind of sketch (also called “flash”) is an image drawn on cardboard, sheet or other surface, which is planned to be transferred to the skin.
The artist does not have to be an expert in painting, but he needs to have an understanding of the basic rules for sketching a tattoo. He should definitely know this. It should be noted that not all artists can become tattooists. Even if they know what sketching is, the process of creating tattoos may be overwhelming for them.

Flash sets, tattoo “rehearsal”

It is very important to be able to correctly position the pattern on the body. Therefore, many artists cannot do without flash sets (collections of sketches) from experienced tattooists. It is recommended primarily for beginners to work with them. Only with gaining experience will you be able to start drawing sketches with your own hands. At first, you should limit yourself to just creating a tattoo. Sketches, to be honest, play a secondary role in this matter.

If the tattoo artist has artistic skills and knows how to create images on sheets, he can easily repeat the image on the skin. When making a sketch on paper, a person imagines how it will look on the body. The artist literally “rehearses” the tattoo, so it will be easier for him to apply the design to the skin.

Sketch of clothes

This type of sketch is a schematic drawing of clothing. How to accomplish it?

Now you know a lot about sketching details, tattoos and clothing designs. By following the above rules, you can make a pretty good sketch. Don't be discouraged if you don't succeed the first time - you need to practice a little.

For any beginning fashion designer, it is important to understand the difference between a sketch and a drawing and technical drawing. Without this it is simply impossible to move on. You must understand how to move from a mental image to a finished image of an item of clothing from which you can sew a quality product. Therefore, everyone should know the answer to the question: “What is the difference between a technical sketch of a skirt and a drawing?”

Of course, you can argue that great couturiers do not have to be guided by any drawings or sketches. And this is absolutely true, because couturiers can experiment with fabrics directly on the mannequin, creating a unique image. But in order to launch it to the masses, it is necessary to sew a lot of such outfits. It is then that the moment comes when one should move from the idea to the creation of graphic models. Only they will help your hired workers sew an exact copy of unique clothes.

Difference between sketch, drawing and drawing

Now, to clarify the question, What is the difference between a sketch and a drawing and a technical drawing? Let's look at each type of graphic image separately.

Sketch– this is an approximate image of a piece of clothing, one might say a sketch. In this case, the drawing is done without the use of drawing tools, but even so there should remain some proportionality in the details. That is, a sketch is a preliminary sketch of the future product.

Drawing- this is an accurate image of the future item of clothing or its detail. Made using programs or special drawing tools. In addition to the image of the item of clothing itself, the drawing also indicates the dimensions that you need to know when sewing. Here, without exception, all details of clothing must be made to scale while maintaining shapes and sizes, which are indicated in millimeters.

Technical drawing– the primary tool for conveying information from the designer to the manufacturer. The technical drawing is formed at the model design stage and is performed mainly without the use of drawing tools. Its main task is to convey all design decisions to the manufacturer. Therefore, it depicts only elements of clothing without the figure of the model. The emphasis is on decorative elements and clothing design. Additionally, division lines, decorative stitches and other elements that create the overall image of the model are shown. The main requirement for a technical drawing is to have a schematic form of presentation without unnecessary lines and exactly repeat the finished product.

The essence of each graphic method of depicting clothing

Having understood the purpose of each type of graphic image of clothing, you can create a certain sequence and understand that one cannot exist without the other. So, first, the couturier creates an image and applies it to a preliminary sketch. Then, to submit an idea for production, a technical drawing is made, on the basis of which a working drawing is already constructed. After all stages have been completed, mass production of the model begins, and only if all stages are completed efficiently, an exact copy of the original idea reaches the market.

How are ideas for new models born? It's different for everyone. Some are inspired by their favorite films, others by glossy magazines, others by the colors of nature. But no matter what inspires fashion designers, all their ideas that are born in the creative process find their expression in artistic sketches of new models.

This is natural, because in order to begin the process of pattern modeling, you need to think through each new model down to the smallest detail - silhouette, design solution, color and texture of fabric, finishing - everything affects how the finished product will look. At the stage of creating an artistic sketch, you can make any changes to the product, experiment with color, length, show your imagination, give freedom to creativity, imagination and create a real masterpiece!

Advice! Keep a separate album for your artistic sketches and sketch all new ideas in it.

Keep a separate album for your artistic sketches and sketch all new ideas in it. Even if some of them do not find immediate implementation, none of the sketches should be thrown away, because they may be useful to you in the future. When adding new models to the album, sometimes return to previous, unrealized ideas. Perhaps, after some time, you will look at them in a new way and bring them to life.
And now a few words about what an artistic sketch should be.

What is an artistic sketch of a model?

You can first do a rough sketch or rough sketch to get your idea down on paper. It may be unclear, disproportionate, and lacking precise drawings. These are the germs of an idea, the initial stage when you can depict a flight of fancy as you consider necessary, understandable only to you. Experiment at this stage without limiting yourself in anything.

Rice. 1. Fore-sketch of a dress

This is followed by the creation of an artistic sketch of the model.
An artistic sketch of a model is a drawing made using any drawing technique. You can use gouache, watercolor, colored or single-color pencils, felt-tip pens and whatever is at hand for drawing. An artistic sketch is performed on a figure in an arbitrary pose. The main thing is that the model you draw conveys the mood, matches the image that you have in mind, is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to wear. All this needs to be thought through at the stage of creating an artistic sketch.

Rice. 2. Artistic sketch of the model - watercolor, ink

Rice. 3. Artistic sketch of the model - graphics

After completing the artistic sketch, it must be converted into a technical sketch, according to which it will be necessary to model the patterns.

Technical sketch of the model

A technical sketch of a model is a drawing of a product on a conditionally standard figure, with a clear definition of all the design features of the model, using a grid of base lines - the base of the neck, chest, waist, hips, central axis. This will allow you to make a more accurate calculation of the location of structural seams, parts, pockets, etc.

Rice. 4. Technical sketch of the model - front and back

Make yourself a rule: always accompany a technical sketch of a model with a detailed description and calculation of the required amount of fabrics and applied materials for sewing it. This will greatly simplify your work and allow you to more accurately estimate the cost of the finished product, make it possible to optimize the modeling and cutting process and obtain a more accurate result. But this is exactly what we strive for!

In the description of the technical drawing of the product, be sure to indicate the following parameters:

1. Brief description of the product in free form.
2. Silhouette, product design features, size.
3. Calculation and description of the required amount of fabric for the product.
4. Description and calculation of the required amount of additional materials for the product (gaskets, fittings, threads, etc.).
5. Features of the model.

Rice. 5. Description of the technical drawing

If artistic sketches, as mentioned above, are best sketched on landscape paper, a squared notebook is ideal for technical drawing. In it you can easily enter a technical sketch and fill out a table describing the model.
Once you have done all the preparatory work and created a technical drawing, it will be much easier for you to create a basic pattern for the product and develop patterns.

Progress does not stand still; new buildings, cars, and various technical household appliances appear. Their creation is impossible without a preliminary sketch and drawing. Designers are developing increasingly complex devices with different characteristics by making sketches. Their main task is to design the part so that it functions correctly. Various drawings help to set correct and accurate data. It takes patience and attention to avoid making mistakes.

History of creation

Plunging into history, you can understand that the origin of the drawings dates back to the end of the twentieth century. Images were written on paper using ink. All engineering, mechanical and architectural drawings were drawn out with thin, neat lines, certain areas were shaded using ink washes and painted.

The work was painstaking and took a lot of time. Draftsmen's students studied a huge number of disciplines: descriptive geometry, subjects on constructing figures on various scales, studying all kinds of lines, the correct use of drawing tools, formulas.

This position is still relevant today. The study follows the same scheme, but more modern technologies are used. The program has been greatly simplified using innovative technologies. Using computer programs, constructing a drawing is not difficult; you just need to enter accurate data. Their advantage is that there is no need to use auxiliary tools, but the hand-drawing method remains the most reliable and proven.

Definition of sketch and drawing

Creating a drawing by hand on a visual scale, called a sketch. In general terms, it is a free drawing that is not intended to be a final work. Does not require precise design construction. To depict it, a simple pencil and eraser are often used. This allows us to correctly depict a certain idea at the initial stage before bringing it to life.

A drawing is one of the types of design documents that contains data for the production and operation of the product. To create it, accurate and clear graphic displays are required. Depicting objects using drawing techniques does not rely on the eye and the fidelity of the hand, but uses various auxiliary tools. The drawing is made on a certain scale, in accordance with the specified dimensions of the product.

What is the difference between a drawing and a sketch. Main criteria

  • Preliminary sketch.
  • We draw by hand.
  • There is no set scale.
  • Accurate document.
  • Requires drawing tools.
  • Design solution with precise data.

Thus, to create a competent drawing, clearly defined parameters are required, including the scale at which the product will be manufactured. The sketch does not require scale and is carried out in any design.

Correct construction and drawing of lines is the main criterion for creating a drawing. The combination of different types of lines is the image of objects in the drawing. It is necessary to use the appropriate line type and thickness, depending on their purpose. When working on a sketch, several overlapping lines can be used that do not require compliance with the type and thickness.

The basic rule for making drawings is the use of various drawing tools or computer programs such as: Compass. The execution of the sketch is arbitrary and does not require such skills.

Creating sketches and drawings

However, creating a drawing is impossible without a sketch. He is the beginning of everything. No matter what a person has in mind, what idea has not come to mind, to implement it one needs sketches, those same sketches without which not a single idea makes sense.
The sketch is made in any technique; various materials can be used. Sketching on paper using a graphic pencil is the most common. Typically a flat image. You can use more than just a pencil and create 3D images using clay or metal wire, giving them different shapes. Such an image is more visual, allows you to carry out your plans with precision and make fewer mistakes.

It is easier for a designer to work with a three-dimensional image, since it is easier to create a scale of exactly the size that is needed. For this, computer programs are most often used; they are easy to use and allow you to view the finished product in three dimensions. Mainly used in large enterprises - fully automated production. In conventional production, where there is no automation, manual labor is used, it is more acceptable to use a simple paper drawing. Sometimes such drawings are more functional and help people use them in their workplaces without computers.

But the most important thing is competent reading of a drawing. A correctly compiled and drawn drawing helps to accurately recreate the required project. The designer must have all the drawing skills, and not make preliminary sketches. Understand why this or that part is needed in order to avoid gross mistakes and ensure proper functioning of the product. Accurately determine the size and draw the part to a given scale. Complying with all drawing rules is the key to quality work.
