This performance of the singer, who for the second year with amazing courage and dignity resists a serious illness - a brain tumor, was expected with special excitement. Due to illness, the singer was forced to abandon his debut appearance in the play in early December. Bolshoi Theater Verdi's opera Don Carlos, and then cancel other opera performances until the end of the current theatrical season.

Dmitri Hvorostovsky in January, the audience of the London "Covent Garden" will not hear in the "Il Trovatore", and in April there will be no "Eugene Onegin" with his participation on the stage of the New York Metropolitan Opera. But concert performances the singer promised not to leave and, as planned, arrived in Russia with a blitz of New Year's Eve concerts.

The huge hall of the State Kremlin Palace met Dmitry Hvorostovsky standing and with a deafening ovation. In response, Dmitry Hvorostovsky smiled touchingly. "Thank you for coming to listen and enjoy classical music..." - the singer addressed the audience from the stage, before introducing the colleagues with whom he shared this performance.

The Kremlin concert became an anniversary for Hvorostovsky. Ten years ago, the popularly beloved and world-famous baritone decided to represent in Russia those who, for the most part, foreign performers, with whom he performs together at the best venues on the planet, but whose names are practically unknown to us. This is how the multi-part project "Hvorostovsky & Friends" appeared.

So, among those who have already been included in the friendly list of singers over the years, there are two famous American sopranos - the unsurpassed Rene Fleming and the spectacular Sondra Radvanovsky, the phenomenal Korean Sumi Jo, the Italian tenor Marcello Giordani, the outstanding German tenor Jonas Kaufman and the beautiful Latvian singer Elina Garancha .

Kneeling down, Dmitry handed a bouquet of roses to his mother, who, together with her father, was madly worried about her son all evening

This time, Dmitry Hvorostovsky invited the famous Argentine tenor Marcelo Alvarez, and also invited the soloist of the Bolshoi soprano Dinara Alieva to share their male duet. Konstantin Orbelyan has traditionally taken the place at the conductor's stand of the Novaya Opera theater orchestra in Moscow.

From the very first number of the concert - a tercet from Verdi's Il trovatore, it became obvious that it would be not just a wonderful vocal evening, but also incredibly emotional communication between the performers and the audience. The first section was entirely devoted to opera. Dinara Aliyeva flashed Manon's aria from Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" act IV, demonstrating that the Bolshoi has worthy performers of the most difficult role in the opera, which Anna Netrebko made the premiere at the theater with her participation historical event. Marcelo Alvarez amazingly sang the final aria of one of his crown heroes Cavaradossi from Puccini's Tosca, also.

But the apogee of the "opera divertissement" was the duet of Alvarez and Hvorostovsky - Carlos and Rodrigo from that very "Don Carlos" by Verdi that was so expected at the Bolshoi. And not only because the vocals were impeccable. The duet, which is crowned with the heroic oath of friendship "You who sow in hearts", was filled with sizzling emotionality and impressed with a clear appeal to absolutely real and very personal experiences.

The second part of the gala concert seemed to be built in more light genre. Mostly arias from zarzuela (Spanish national operetta) and Neapolitan songs. Dmitri Hvorostovsky incredibly sensually performed Passione ("Passion") Volente - Tagliaferi and Parlami d amore Mariu ("Why did you lower your eyes") Bixio. And under the curtain famous song di Capua O sole mio soloists have created an elegant joke "for three".

The hall went into ecstatic applause again. But the encores were concise. Marcelo Alvarez performed Leandro's hit romance from Sorozabal's zarzuela "The Hostess of the Port Tavern". And Dmitri Hvorostovsky "Dark Eyes". And then the song, which has long become almost kitsch, turned into an absolutely infernal epistle: "... I wouldn't have suffered like this, / I would have lived my life smiling. / You ruined me, black eyes, / Carried away my happiness forever." Every breath, look, every word was filled with sadness, sadness and ... fear. Dmitry took a bouquet of roses from that sea of flowers that the fans presented to him during the concert, and, kneeling down, handed it to his mother, who, together with her father, was madly worried about her son all evening. The audience left completely shocked. Marcelo Alvarez remarked backstage after the concert: "The fight against the disease has made Dmitry an even greater singer."

Now every appearance of Dmitry Hvorostovsky on stage is more than just a performance. It is a victory and a message that reveals the soul.

This Sunday, December 18, Dmitry will also sing together with Marcelo and Dinara in St. Petersburg. And on December 22 he will give a solo concert in his native Krasnoyarsk and on the 28th in Yekaterinburg.
